Manchester United Postpone Match Following The Death Of Spurs Coach Ugo Ehiogu

Manchester United cancel reserve match with Tottenham following the death of Spurs coach Ugo Ehiogu

Manchester United have cancelled their reserve fixture with Tottenham following the news of the shock death of Spurs' Under 23 coach Ugo Ehiogu.

United announced via their social media channels on Friday morning that in light of the news the upcoming fixture would be postponed.

Posting on Twitter, United stated: 'In light of this terrible news, Monday's Reserves game against Tottenham at Old Trafford has been postponed,' before paying tribute to the former defender.

Spurs Under 23s coach Ehiogu collapsed on the club's academy training pitches on Thursday and received immediate attention from the Tottenham medical staff.

Paramedics were called and he was rushed to hospital by ambulance, but passed away in the early hours of Friday morning at the age of just 44.

He leaves behind his wife Gemma, whom he married in 2005, and a son, Obi Jackson. Ehiogu also had a daughter, Jodie.

Tottenham announced the news of Ehiogu's passing on Friday morning, issuing a statement: 'It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Ugo Ehiogu, our Under-23 coach'.

'Ugo received immediate treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest at the Training Centre yesterday before being transferred to hospital, where he passed away in the early hours of this morning.

'The club sends its deepest condolences to Ugo's family. Gemma has specifically asked that the family are given privacy at this difficult time.'

One of Ehiogu's former clubs Aston Villa, for whom he played more than 300 games, tweeted to say they would be holding a minute's silence prior to their clash with rivals Birmingham at the weekend.

'We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of our former defender Ugo Ehiogu,' Villa wrote on their official website.
