The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 arraigned the immediate past Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, and the 2015 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Umar Nasko, before Justice Aliyu Maiyaki of the Federal High Court sitting in Minna, Niger State on a 6-count charge of fraud to the tune of N3billion.
Ninety five count charge was earlier levelled against him before it was reduced to six by the EFCC.
Mr. Aliyu is standing trial for alleged N4.568 billion fraud and abuse of office. The judge, Aliyu Mayaki, ordered that the defendants be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the matter till May 3 for ruling on the bail application.
Mr. Aliyu, who was Niger governor between 2007 and 2015, had been in the custody of the EFCC since April 4.
